Frederik-Lange's Two Goals Help Lift Men's Soccer Over UNC Pembroke
PEMBROKE, N.C. -- Catawba got two goals from freshman Tim Frederik-Lange (Limburgerhof, Germany) and topped host UNC Pembroke 3-1 in men’s soccer action on Wednesday night at Lumbee River EMC Stadium. With the win, the Catawba Indians improve to 4-3 on the season. The Braves fall to 3-4.
Frederik-Lange put Catawba on the board 15 minutes into the contest as he chipped a shot over UNCP keeper Lucas Gusmao after a through ball from Hunter Faust ((Statesville, N.C./Statesville). Frederik-Lange helped double the lead with just under 10 minutes left in the half, putting Jack Pettett (Hove, England) free one-on-one versus the keeper.
Pembroke sliced the lead in half just five minutes into the second half when Jordan Walshaw converted on a free kick from 20 yards. Catawba defended the one-goal lead until Frederik-Lange put in a dagger with another chip of the keeper off a service in from Tyus Lopez (Charlotte, N.C./Mallard Creek) with two and half minutes remaining.
Catawba held a slight 12-11 edge in shots, while UNCP took all six of the match’s corner kicks. Joe Gonzalez (Marion, N.Y./Marion/LeMoyne) collected three saves in goal for Catawba. Gusmao also stopped three shots for the Braves.
Catawba hosts Brevard as the Indians return to SAC action on Saturday at 7:30 pm.
