Lux Helps Produce Three Goals For Women's Soccer in Win Over Pfeiffer
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba notched its fifth straight win, downing visiting Pfeiffer 3-2 in women’s soccer action on Saturday at the Frock Soccer Complex. The Catawba Indians, rated sixth in this week’s NSCAA Southeast Region Poll, improve to 5-1-1. The Falcons fall to 3-4-1.
Defender Jenny Lux (Mooresville, N.C./Pine Lake Prep) had a hand in each Catawba goal as the Lady Indians scored the winner just 10 minutes from time. With the match knotted a 2-2, Lux served a ball 20 yards to the back post where Caitlin Hill (Advance, N.C/W. Forsyth) headed it home through a defender and the keeper.
The last goal was similar to the first goal of the match as Lux served a ball from the right into the box. This time, Becky Frost (Crofton, Md./Arundel) was on the receiving in and her header near the penalty spot put Catawba on top in the 10th minute.
Pfeiffer twice rallied from a goal down. In the 32nd minute, Brae Buster fired a shot from the right that hit the inside of the left post to pull the Falcons even.
Lux would give Catawba the lead back just two minutes into the second half with a shot from 25 yards out on the right that found the back upper left corner. Buster scored her second of the match just past the hour as she outraced a pair of Catawba defenders and poked a shot past Catawba keeper Liz Nail (King, N.C./W. Stokes.).
Catawba held a 17-10 edge in shots and had a 7-4 advantage in corners. Nail recorded five saves for the Lady Indians. Kaley Hyatt stopped eight shots for Pfeiffer.
Catawba returns to league action on Saturday, hosting Brevard at 5 pm.
