Women's Soccer Sees Six-Match Win Streak End at Queens
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Queens tallied a 1-0 shutout of visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action on Wednesday night at the Queens Sports Complex. The Royals improve to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 6-2-1 and 5-1.
The lone goal of the match came in the 20th minute. Kathy Fisher was able to lift a shot from outside the right of the box that found the back upper left of the goal to put the Royals ahead. It marked just the second time Catawba had trailed all season. The other time was when Flagler put in an overtime goal in the season opener.
Catawba’s best first-half chance came after a shot from outside the box hit off the crossbar and a header by Caitlin Hill (Advance, N.C./W. Forsyth) on the rebound was wide. The Lady Indians had a couple chances early in the second half saved, but couldn’t put another shot on target until the final minutes.
Queens held a 13-8 edge in shots and each team put four on goal. Catawba had two of the matches’ three corner kicks. Liz Nail (King, N.C./W. Stokes.) made three saves for the Lady Indians and Rachel Quest stopped four shots in posting the shutout.
Catawba will be at Carson-Newman on Saturday at 1 pm.
