Women's Soccer Suffers Second Straight Shutout Loss

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Host Carson-Newman scored twice in the opening 10 minutes and went on to post a 6-0 win over Catawba in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at McCown Field.  The Lady Eagles improve to 11-2 overall and 5-1 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 6-3-1 and 5-2.

Julianne Herrity assisted on those early goals, sending balls into the box to Holly Talbut-Smith in the third minute and Laure Wade in the ninth.  Helen Seed headed home a corner kick for a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes and a header by Hannah Henry, on a cross from Talbut-Smith made it 4-0 on the half hour.

Herrity added a goal of her own in the 35th minute, sending Carson-Newman to the half up 5-0.  Jaidyn Zapf closed out the scoring on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute.

Carson-Newman held a hefty 23-9 edge in shots and had three of the four corner kicks in the match.  Liz Nail (King, N.C./W. Stokes) made five saves for the Lady Indians.  Jacqueline Burns stopped three shots for C-N.

Catawba will next face Saint Leo in a neutral site match on Wednesday at 3 pm.  The match will be played in Savannah, Ga., on the campus of Armstrong Atlantic State University.
