Hollenhorst's Late Tally Secures Fifth Straight Win For Men's Soccer
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Catawba got a goal from Philipp Hollenhorst (Muenster, Germany) in the 84th minute to propel the Indians to a fifth straight win, topping host Carson-Newman 1-0 in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at McCown Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the SAC, while the Eagles fall to 6-5 and 2-4.
The teams battled in a tight match until Hollenhorst collected a pass in front of the goal from Jack Ragen (Terrigal, Australia) and put home the lone goal. Carson-Newman had played a man down after a red card in the 32nd minute and the Indians finally took advantage in the final minutes.
Catawba held a 15-13 edge in shots and put seven on goal. Joe Gonzalez (Marion, N.Y./Marion/LeMoyne) saved the three Eagle shots on goal. C-N had the edge in corner kicks 3-1. Joe Boyd made six saves for the Eagles.
Catawba heads to Lees-McRae on Wednesday for a 5 pm kickoff.
