BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Catawba ran its winning streak to six matches with a 3-2 victory over host Lees-McRae in men’s soccer action on Wednesday at Tate Field.  The Catawba Indians improve to 8-3, while the Bobcats fall to 3-9.

Catawba took a quick lead as Tim Frederik-Lange (Limburgerhof, Germany) knocked home a goal in the fifth minute.  The Indians doubled the lead five minutes before the half as Jack Ragen (Terrigal, Australia) put in a cross from Tyus Lopez (Charlotte, N.C./Mallard Creek).

The Bobcats cut the margin to 2-1 just before the half.  Thomas Deeley got the goal in the 43rd minute, scoring from five yards out off a pass from Nathan Watt.

The Indians regained their two-goal margin in the 58th minute.  Philipp Hollenhorst (Muenster, Germany) headed home a free kick from Daniele Proch (Arco, Italy).  Proch had also assisted on Catawba’s opening goal.  Taylor Gray pulled a goal back for the Bobcats in the final minutes, but the hosts could not come up with a tying goal.

Christian Watts (Plymouth, England) got the call in goal for Catawba and recorded three saves.  Tyler Pavlet had six saves for Lees-McRae.  Catawba held a 17-15 edge in shots and had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
