Men's Soccer Has Streak End At Six
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Anderson snapped Catawba’s six-match winning streak with a 1-0 win in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer action on Saturday night at the Frock Soccer Complex. The Trojans improve to 5-5-2 overall and 1-5-2 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 8-4 and 5-3.
Colin Burris scored the lone goal of the night in the 55th minute. Catawba pushed for the equalizer, out-shooting the visitors 8-3 in the final half, but failed to net a goal.
The best chance for Catawba came in a frantic final minute. The Indians drew a late corner and a shot from Tyus Lopez (Charlotte, N.C./Mallard Creek) hit the post. Catawba would have had another corner, but time ran out before the Indians could take the kick.
The Indians held a 10-7 edge in shots and a 7-4 advantage in corners. Joe Gonzalez (Marion, N.Y./Marion/LeMoyne) made two saves for Catawba. Devon Ashy stopped four shots in earning the shutout.
Catawba entertains Wingate at the Frock on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
