CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Queens downed visiting Catawba in four sets in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Tuesday night at the Levine Center.  The Royals improve to 14-4 overall and 11-2 in the SAC with the 25-22, 16-25, 25-23 and 25-19 victory.  The Catawba Indians fall to 9-9 and 7-6.

Alex Hopper (Madison, N.C./McMichael) led Catawba with 11 kills, hitting at 32%.  Bri Howard (Graham, N.C./S. Alamance) added eight kills and three blocks, while McKenzie Garrison (Newton, N.C./Maiden) added 16 digs and served five aces.

In the opening set, Queens used a 5-0 run to snap a 10-10 tied to take control of the set.  Rebecca Cochran had a kill and a block in the run, while Mallory Swarts served an ace.  Catawba closed within two points several times, but Alex Thompson was able to kill off set point.

The Lady Indians led throughout the second set.  A kill from Audrey Hoffman (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek) and an ace from Garrison snapped an 11-11 tie as Catawba went up 14-11.  A kill from Allison Benton (High Springs, Fla./St. Francis) pushed the margin to 20-15 and the Lady Indians scored the final five points of the set.

Garrison served two aces as Catawba jumped to a 4-0 lead in set three.  Queens would tie the set at 7-all and it would remain tight the rest of the way with 13 ties.  The Lady Indians edged out to a 19-16 lead before Queens reeled off four in a row.  The teams traded points until Swarts followed a kill from Jessica Raines to give the Royals the set.

Queens bolted to an 8-2 lead in set four as Sydney Kunz started it with consecutive aces.  Catawba battled back to get within 18-17 before a Kunz kill and block by Cochran and Alex Thompson put the hosts up 20-17.  Hopper pulled Catawba within 21-19, but Queens won the final four points to take the match after back-to-back kills from Cochran and the final one from Raines.

Cochran led Queens with 15 kills, three blocks and 17 digs.  Raines added 14 kills, while Thompson posted six blocks.  Swarts served three aces.
