Zaninovic Adds Another Win On Final Day of Quad Meet

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Catawba finished up the Wingate Quad Meet with Wingate, Lenoir-Rhyne and Limestone on Saturday at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center.  Freshman Mario Zaninovic picked up another individual win as the Catawba men collected 379 points.  The women finished with 250 points as both squads finished third.

Zaninovic’s third win of the two days came in the 1000 free on Saturday.  He won by seven seconds over teammate Ali Hegazi with a time of 9:44.12 which is the third fastest time in school history.  Hegazi came back to edge Zaninovic in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.64 to his 1:44.71 as the duo went two-three.

John Barreto took fourth in the 50 free (21.49) and the 100 fly (51.55), while Federico Borrego Higareda was fourth in the 200 breast (2:11.18).  Dominik Brus claimed fifth in the 100 fly (52.21).  Brus, Higareda, Barreto and Hegazi helped the 200 medley and 400 free relay teams to second place finishes.

Marcia-Mariel Erhart had the top finish for the women.  She was third in the 1000 free with a time of 10:43.06 good enough for eighth in the record book.  Cassie Shear posted a fifth-place finish in the 200 breast (2:5.61).
