Women's Basketball Cans Record 14 Three-Pointers Against Queens

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba connected on a school-record 14 three-pointers in cruising to an 81-45 South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball victory over visiting Queens on Wednesday night at Goodman Gym.  The Catawba Indians improve to 9-3 overall and 6-1 in the SAC, while the Royals fall to 3-9 and 3-4.

Elizabeth Webb (Statesville, N.C./W. Iredell) and Bri Johnson (Statesville, N.C./N. Iredell/Belmont Abbey) were the main culprits in besting the old mark of 12 makes from behind the arc.  Webb scored all 15 of her points on five three-pointers, while Johnson tallied a game-high 21 points and canned four from long range.

Terri Rogers (Burlington, N.C./E. Alamance) would also reach double figures for the Lady Indians, posting a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Sarah Henson led Queens with 13 points off the bench with Cheyenne Logan scoring 10 points.

Catawba began to pull away late in the first quarter.  Johnson capped an 8-0 run with three free throws and a 16-8 Lady Indian lead at the 3:32 mark.  Catawba outscored the Royals 22-10 in the second quarter to build its edge to 42-22 at the break.  Queens never got closer than 20 points the rest of the way with the Lady Indians leading by at least 30 over the final 13 minutes.

The Lady Indians held a big edge in turnovers, scoring 32 points off 24 Queens miscues and allowing only six off its own 14 mistakes.  Catawba would hold a 19-2 edge in second-chance points, pulling down 14 offensive rebounds.

Catawba is at home again on Saturday as the Lady Indians host Brevard at 2 pm.
