Clayton, LaRoche earn SAC Player of Week honorsROCK HILL, SC -- The South Atlantic Conference announced that Catawba College women’s soccer player Kim Clayton and volleyball player Rachel LaRoche have been selected as this week's player of the week for their respective sports.Clayton, a junior goalkeeper from Haw River, NC, led the Lady Indians to a 2-0 record on the week, both by shutout. She set school records with six straight shutouts and 571 scoreless minutes and has not allowed a goal in five league matches. Clayton, a product of Eastern Alamance High School, helped the Lady Indians defeat Francis Marion in a battle of regionally ranked teams and Mars Hill to stay atop the league standings. LaRoche, a junior outside hitter from Wilmington, DE, led Catawba to an upset win at Wingate University last Tuesday in the Lady Indians' only action of the week. The victory was Catawba's first five-game win of the season (in five tries). Catawba prevailed 3-2 (12-30, 30-27, 30-25, 21-30, 15-11). The Concord High School product had 21 kills, 11 blocks and seven digs against the Bulldogs. Her 11 blocks were the most by a Lady Indian in a decade. On the season, LaRoche leads the Indians with 2.88 kills per game. She has compiled a .253 hitting percentage and helps out defensively with 2.08 digs per game. The league Players of Week are voted on among the sports information directors in the conference. #######
