Swimming Wins 10 of 22 Events Against Wingate
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Wingate topped host Catawba in both men’s and women’s swimming action on Saturday afternoon at the Johnson Poll. The Bulldog men won by a score of 117-81, while the women took a 116-69 victory.
Catawba’s men claimed wins in six of the 11 events with the women earning four wins. Joao Barreto and Federico Borrego Higareda each picked up two individual win for the men and Amy Cujas had two wins for the women.
Barreto had wins in the 50 free (22.00) and 100 fly (51.75). Higareda touched first in the 200 IM (1:57.40) and the 100 breast (58.57). Dominik Brus also swam to an individual win for the men which came in the 100 back (53.19). The men’s 200 medley relay team of Brus, Higareda, Barreto and Ali Hegazi opened with a win in a time of 1:35.33.
Cujas claimed both sprint freestyle events. She had a time of 25.05 in the 50 free and 54.46 in the 100 free. The Lady Indians added wins by Marcia-Mariel Erhart in the 500 free (5:20.84) and Cassie Shear in the 100 breast (1:09.47).
Catawba returns to the pool on Friday, hosting Lenoir-Rhyne in its final home meet of the season.
