Women's Basketball Shakes Off Poor Shooting Night to Top Coker
SALISBURY, N.C. – Catawba overcame a poor shooting night and topped visiting Coker 59-46 in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Wednesday night at Goodman Gym. The Catawba Indians improve to 13-5 overall and 10-3 in the SAC, while the Cobras fall to 3-15 and 2-11.
Catawba shot just 31% in the contest, but did connect on 7-of-15 (47%) in the second quarter to pull out to a 30-24 edge at the break. The Lady Indians would eventually take a 17-point lead late in the third quarter after a three-pointer by Marshauna Butler (Bowie, Md./Bowie/Stony Brook).
Coker struggled to find the mark as well, making only 35%. Iresha Cooper had a double-double for the Cobras with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sydney Shull and Lindsey Adams both added eight points.
Catawba got 12 points and eight rebounds each from Bri Johnson (Statesville, N.C./N. Iredell/Belmont Abbey) and Terri Rogers (Burlington, N.C./E. Alamance). Butler had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Catawba travels to Mars Hill on Saturday for a 2 pm tip with the Lions. Catawba claimed a 77-55 win in the first match up of the season.
