Rogers Produces Ninth Double-Double in OT Loss to Anderson
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Anderson tied the game in the final seconds of regulation then went on for a 74-69 win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. The Trojans improve to 17-5 overall and 14-4 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 13-10 and 10-8.
Catawba had rallied from 10 down in the fourth quarter to take a 64-63 lead on a pair of free throws by Madison Hallman (Thomasville, N.C./E. Davidson) with 38 seconds left. The Trojans tied it on a free throw by Kaylee Koerperich then Catawba went up 66-64 on two free throws by Terri Rogers (Burlington, N.C./E. Alamance) with eight seconds to play. Alexy Mollenhauer sent the game to overtime on her layup with two seconds left.
In the extra period, Catawba took a 69-68 lead with 3:05 left on a three-pointer by Serena Brown (Ft. Washington, Md./Bowie). That would be the only points of the period for Catawba and Anderson went on top for good on a layup by Jasmine Franklin with 1:52 remaining.
After two Catawba misses, Franklin added another layup with 43 seconds to go. The Lady Indians survived one possession when Mollenhauer missed two free throws with 27 seconds left, but Catawba missed two three-point tries and Madison Baggett iced the game on her free throws with two seconds remaining.
Franklin led Anderson with a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds. Mollenhauer followed with 22 points and added eight rebounds and four blocks.
Catawba was led by Rogers, who collected her ninth double-double of the season with 24 points and 18 rebounds. Brown added 15 points and Marshauna Butler (Bowie, Md./Bowie/Stony Brook) grabbed 10 rebounds with nine points.
The Lady Indians suffered through another tough shooting day, making only 29%. Anderson hit on 44% which helped offset eight more turnovers.
Catawba hits the road on Wednesday, traveling to Queens for a 6 pm tipoff.
