Rogers Leads Women's Basketball Over Brevard
BREVARD, N.C. -- Terri Rogers (Burlington, N.C./E. Alamance) recorded a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead Catawba to an 80-61 win over host Brevard in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon night at Boshamer Gym. The Catawba Indians improve to 15-10 and 12-8, while the Tornados fall to 6-18 and 2-18.
The teams were tied 21-21 after a quarter and Catawba led just 33-30 late in the second period. The Lady Indians closed the half on a 9-2 run over the final 3:10 to push their margin to 42-32 at the break.
Catawba rode that momentum into the second half, opening the third quarter with 11 straight points to take a commanding 53-32 lead. The Lady Indians kept a hefty lead the rest of the game.
Rogers canned 10-of-17 shots in scoring her 22 points. Bri Johnson (Statesville, N.C./W. Iredell/Belmont Abbey) followed with 17 points, while Serena Brown (Ft. Washington, Md./Bowie) had 15 points and seven assists.
Brevard got a game-high 24 points from Lynsey Crisp. Madison Lenox added 15 points and Cienna Bryant tallied a dozen points.
Catawba held a 35-27 edge on the boards and had 12 turnovers to 23 for the Tornados. The Lady Indians scored 28 points off those miscues.
Catawba returns home for two games to close out the regular season. The Lady Indians host Wingate on Wednesday at 6 pm.
