JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Host Carson-Newman claimed a doubleheader sweep of Catawba in South Atlantic Conference softball action on Saturday afternoon at The Vick.  The Lady Eagles improve to 25-7 overall and 6-0 in the SAC with 6-0 and 9-1 victories.  The Catawba Indians fall to 9-26 and 2-4.

Allie Webster had two hits and drove in four as Carson-Newman shutout Catawba in the opener.  She drove home the opening run in the second and added another RBI in the third.  Her two-run single in the fourth gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead.

Catawba picked up just five hits, but had scoring chances, leaving a dozen on base.  The Lady Indians stranded two runners in the first, fourth, fifth and sixth frames and the bases loaded in the third.

Laci Rinus (13-3) got the win for Carson-Newman and had three hits at the plate.  In addition to allowing five hits, she walked five and struck out six.  Webster (12-4) would pitch the game two win.  She surrendered a run on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Rinus added three more hits in game two for C-N.  Taylor Scott had three hits with three RBI and scored four runs.  Taylor Martin (Salisbury, N.C./W. Rowan) had two hits for Catawba.

KaraLynne Levi put Carson-Newman up with a two-run double in the first.  Grace Holland (Thomasville, N.C./Ledford) drove in Catawba’s lone run of the day with a double in the second to pull the Lady Indians within 2-1.  Carson-Newman got that run back in third then got four in fourth to go up 7-1.  Scott’s three-run double was the big blow.

Catawba is next scheduled to host Coker on Tuesday at 1:30 pm.
