Men's Lacrosse Tops Brevard on Late Goals
BREVARD, N.C. -- Catawba scored a pair of late goals and claimed a 12-10 win over host Brevard in South Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at the Brevard Turf Field. The Catawba Indians up their record to 7-6 overall and 4-3 in the SAC, while the Tornados fall to 2-11 and 0-6.
Brevard had rallied from a 10-4 deficit with six straight goals to pull even with 4:01 to go on back-to-back goals by Kyle Hunziker. Catawba won the ensuing face-off and Liam Lynch (Marietta, Ga./Pope) put the Indians back on top with 3:43 to play. Reid Lichtenberger (Austin, Texas/Vandergrift) added a goal with 2:14 left for the final margin.
The Indians jumped to an early 5-0 lead in the first quarter. Catawba led 6-1 at the break and moved up 10-4 on Cole Fanzo’s (Crofton, Md./S. River) third goal of the game with 6:37 remaining in the third quarter. Brevard started its rally on Hunziker’s goal at the 4:11 mark.
Fanzo’s three goals led Catawba. Dalton Cook (St. Augustine’s, Fla./Bartram Trail) had two goals with three assists. Lynch and Lichtenberger also scored two goals. Hunziker and Alex Bazzell tallied four goals each for the Tornados.
Catawba hosts Shorter in non-conference action on Friday at 2 pm.
