Women's Lacrosse Nets Record 10th Win
BREVARD, N.C. -- Catawba set a school record with its 10th win of the season, rolling to a 19-6 victory over host Brevard in South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon at the Brevard Turf Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 10-4 overall and 3-3 in the SAC, while the Tornados fall to 2-10 and 0-7.
The Lady Indians scored the first four goals and never trailed. Kirstyn Kruse (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Williston Northampton Prep) had two of the opening goals over the first seven minutes and added an assist on a third. Erin Green (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) and Gianna Pezzulo (Henneker, N.H./Cushing Academy) had a goal and an assist.
Crista Clayton (Jacksonville Beach, Fla./Fletcher) scored back-to-back goals to help move the Catawba lead to 7-2 midway through the first half. Nicolette Salay (Columbus, N.C./N. Burlington Regional) scored consecutive goals to help the Lady Indians to a 10-4 lead with just under five minutes left in the half.
Catawba put the game away with a seven-goal spurt in which four came in the final 2:27 of the half. Catawba tallied the first three goals of the second half to move ahead 17-5 with 22 minutes left.
Kruse had four goals and three assists to lead Catawba. Salay and Clayton each had three goals, while Pezzulo had two goals and two helpers.
The Lady Indians held a 42-10 edge in shots with the Tornados committing 26 turnovers to just 11 for Catawba. Nina Siu had three goals and two assists for Brevard. Shelby Arsenault recorded 15 saves.
Catawba travels to North Greenville on Wednesday at 5 pm.
