Setzer Named SAC Baseball Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- Catawba's Luke Setzer was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Thomas St. Clair of Lenoir-Rhyne was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played April 3-9. It was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Setzer, a junior from Salisbury, N.C., hit .611 with 11 hits and four RBI to lead the Catawba Indians to a 3-1 record last week, including a series win over SAC foe Mars Hill. In game one of the double-header against the Lions on April 9, Setzer drove in the winning run in extra innings as he finished the contest with a 5-for-5 performance at the plate. In game two, he sparked the Catawba rally as he notched a pair of doubles to help the Catawba Indians to an 11-8 win. He posted multiple hits in all four contests and finished the week with three doubles. Setzer slugged .778 in the four-game span to go along with an on-base percentage of .632. The honor is his third Player of the Week plaudit this season.
St. Clair, a senior from Winston-Salem, N.C., struck out nine hitters to pick up a complete game win over Wingate on April 7. He scattered just three hits in his nine innings of work and surrendered only one run. St. Clair has thrown three complete games this season. The award marks his fourth Pitcher of the Week selection on the year.
