Kruse's Five Goals Lead Women's Lacrosse Over NGU
TIGERVILLE, S.C. -- Catawba picked up a 15-10 win over host North Greenville in women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium. The Catawba Indians up their record to 11-4, while the Crusaders fall to 7-6.
Catawba scored the first five goals with five different players notching them over the opening 18 minutes. North Greenville cut the margin to 6-3 late in the half before Kirstyn Kruse (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Williston Northampton Prep) tallied one of her five goals on the day to give the Lady Indians a 7-3 lead at the break.
North Greenville couldn't make a charge in the second half as Catawba matched each run the Crusaders had. NGU never got closer than three goals. Up 9-6, Nicole Hunt (Pleasant Garden, N.C./SE Guilford) and Kruse scored to push the lead back five and Imani Grays (Greensboro, N.C./SE Guilford) answered two goals from the Crusaders to put the Lady Indians on top 12-8 with 10:54 left.
Kruse scored her five goals on six shots. Hunt had two goals and an assist, while Grays and Gianna Pezzulo (Henneker, N.H./Cushing Academy) had two goals each. Gracie Wolfman (Georgetown, Texas/Georgetown) won six draw controls and Katie Barth (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) scooped up five ground balls.
Rachel Kellogg led North Greenville with three goals. Monica Colwell and Jillian Cheisa each scored two. Sydney Taylor posted a dozen saves and had seven ground balls.
Catawba returns to league action on Saturday, hosting Newberry at 2 pm.
