Men's Lacrosse Romps Over Shorter 18-1
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba rolled to an 18-1 victory over visiting Shorter in men’s lacrosse action on Friday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Catawba Indians improve to 8-6, while the Eagles fall to 0-13.
Catawba scored the first nine goals building that edge until Austin Zumbado notched the lone Shorter goal at the 7:30 mark of the third quarter. The Indians held a 45-18 edge in shots, a 37-18 advantage in ground balls and won 15 of 22 face-offs.
Ten different Indians scored in the win. Liam Lynch (Marietta, Ga./Pope) led the way with four goals and an assist, while Dalton Cook (St. Augustine’s, Fla./Bartram Trail) added three, all in the first half. Reid Lichtenberger (Austin, Texas/Vandergrift) had two goals and two assists.
Ethan Jarrett (Roebuck, S.C./Dorman) won 11 of his 16 face-off attempts with Joey Monfort (Salisbury, Md./Wicomico) scooped up nine ground balls. Ryan Applegate (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) played the first three quarter in goal for Catawba and made eight saves.
Chris Woodard had an assist on the Zumbado goal for Shorter. Morgan DeNoers caused three turnovers and collected six ground balls. Garry Robinson played three quarters in goal for the Eagles and posted 11 saves.
Catawba will conclude its regular season at Lenoir-Rhyne, next Saturday at 7 pm.
