Volleyball Welcomes 2017 Freshmen Class

SALISBURY, N.C. - - Catawba College Lady Indians’ Volleyball welcomes five freshmen to the team for the 2017 season.  Coach Ginger Hamric is looking forward to the rich tradition of success in their volleyball careers. Assistant Coach Nicole Barringer believes the freshmen have a lot of potential and are high-spirited players who will increase the intensity of play by their level of competitiveness and talent. The newest members of the Catawba College Volleyball Team are Abby Benton, Jade Brooks, Macy Eidenberger, Micah Ensor, and Jordan McCall.

Wearing number 1 for the Lady Indians is Micah Ensor. Micah is from Marietta, Georgia where she was a two-year varsity captain for Lassiter High School. She will be a right side hitter for Catawba. Micah chose Catawba College because of the people and the atmosphere they created. She says the people at Catawba are really welcoming and made her feel comfortable.

Number 5, Jordan McCall, is a Rowan County native coming to Catawba from East Rowan High School. She resides in Granite Quarry, North Carolina. Jordan will be a setter and defensive specialist for the Lady Indians. She was a four-year captain for the Mustangs, two-time team MVP and a member of the SPC All Conference and All Rowan County teams for three years during her tenure at East Rowan. Jordan says she is looking forward to meeting new people and building relationships with the girls on the volleyball team.

Abby Benton will be number 9 for the Lady Indians. She will be joining her sister, Allison Benton, on the volleyball team this year. Abby is an outside hitter from High Springs, Florida and was a four-year letterman and three-year captain for St. Francis High School. She helped her team to the 2016 State Championship and was a member of the Gainesville Sun All Area Team for three years.  Abby is eager to play with her sister, Allison, because she has always looked up to her and she was the reason Abby started playing volleyball.

The team’s number 11 is Jade Brooks. Jade is from Hickory, North Carolina and attended Fred T. Foard High School. She will also be an outside hitter for the Indians. While at Foard, Jade was a member of the NC Northwestern 3A/4A All Conference Team, the 2014 NC Northwestern 3A/4A Offensive Player of the Year, Foard Offensive Player of the Year in 2014 and 2016 and Defensive Player of the Year in 2015. Jade is most excited about the level of intensity and having the comradery of a close-knit team that comes from playing at the collegiate level.

The final freshman joining the Catawba Lady Indians is Macy Eidenberger. Macy will be number 12 for the Indians coming to the team from Trinity, North Carolina. She will be an outside hitter and playing with her cousin Allie Grubb. Macy attended Wheatmore High School where she was the 2016 MVP for her team. She was a three-time member of the PAC 6 All Conference, three-time PAC 6 Conference and Conference Tournament Championship from 2014-2016, a two-time NC 2A State Runner Up and 2016 Regional Runner Up. Macy feels she can contribute effort and energy to the team by being positive on the court and towards her teammates.
