Men's Soccer Falls to Mars Hill in Tight League Opener
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba fell to Mars Hill 1-0 in Catawba’s first men's soccer conference game of the season. The South Atlantic Conference game was played Saturday afternoon at Frock Soccer Complex. The Lions move to 1-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians drop to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in conference.
Catawba and Mars Hill were closely matched in this tight scoring game. Both teams battled for a 0-0 score going into the half. The teams even matched shots with five shots apiece.
Derek Kaple had the one and only score from 15 yards out in the 61st minute for the Lions. Goalkeeper Ben Lucas had a total of three saves. Joe Gonzelez had a pair of saves for Catawba.
Catawba is back in action on Wednesday as the Indians travel to Newberry for a league match that kicks off at 3:30 pm.
