Volleyball Falls in Three to Lenoir-Rhyne
HICKORY, N.C. - - Catawba dropped their South Atlantic Conference match against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears on Tuesday at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium. Lenoir-Rhyne defeated Catawba 22-25, 18-25, and 17-25. Catawba drops to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the SAC, while Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
The Catawba Lady Indians jumped out to an early lead in the first set, but once the Bears broke a nine all tie they never regained the lead. Catawba used two Lenoir-Rhyne attack errors and a kill by Alexa Marcy to get within two before the Bears scored their final point.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored the first point of the second set but Catawba rattled off seven straight before the Bears could score again. Kills by Allie Grubb and Jade Brooks helped the Indians maintain the lead until the Bears could tie the set at 11. Lenoir-Rhyne outscored Catawba 11-7 to finish out the set.
Kimberly Hurtado and Micah Ensor lead the Indians offense with seven kills each. Grubb added five kills and Rachel Stanford had 18 assists. Allison Benton collected 10 digs.
Catawba is back in action on Friday in another South Atlantic Conference match at Lincoln Memorial University.
