Volleyball Drops Match at Lincoln Memorial
HARRGATE, T.N. - - The Catawba Indians lost their South Atlantic Conference match at Lincoln Memorial University on Friday evening. The Lady Indians fell 1-3 to the Railsplitters. Catawba drops to (3-5) overall and (1-3) in the SAC. Lincoln Memorial improves to (6-3) overall and (3-3) in the conference.
The Lady Railsplitters jumped out to a quick lead in the first set, but the Lady Indians fought back and tied the set at 8 all on a kill by Allie Grubb
. Once Lincoln Memorial regained the lead, Catawba put pressure on them but was unable to tie the set again. The Indians dropped set number one 15-25.
A service ace by Morgan Hester
gave Catawba their first lead of the second set after a 15 all tie. Lincoln Memorial tied the set again but Catawba got the lead back immediately on an attack error. A kill by Grubb forced the Railsplitters to take their final timeout as the Lady Indians pulled ahead. Catawba capitalized on three Lincoln Memorial errors and another Grubb kill to get the points they needed to close out the set 25-23.
The third set was very close and back and fourth most of the set. Catawba tied the set at 23 with a Macy Eidenberger
service, at 24 on a kill by Abby Benton
, and once more at 25 by a Grubb kill. However, the Lady Indians handed the Railsplitters the final two points on errors, giving them the set 25-27.
Lincoln Memorial got Catawba off balance quick in the fourth set taking a seven point lead. The Lady Indians fought from an 11 point deficit to finish the set outscoring the Railsplitters 8-4. Despite the effort, Catawba was unable to hold them off dropping the fourth set 17-25.
Catawba’s offense was led by Grubb’s 14 kills. Rachel Stanford handed out 19 assists and Allison Benton
collected 22 digs.
The Catawba Lady Indians will return to action Saturday at Carson Newman before having a three game home stand next week.
