Volleyball Swept by Queens
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Queens swept Catawba in three sets in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Goodman Gym. The Royals improve to 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 3-8 and 1-6.
Rebecca Cochran led a balanced Queens attack with nine kills and 16 digs. Jessica Raines and Casey Tarvin both added seven kills, while Taylor Henry collected six kills and five blocks. The Royals hit at 24% and held Catawba to just 7%.
Queens jumped to a 9-4 lead in the opening set and controlled play the entire set. Consecutive aces by Lexie Dolecheck pushed the margin to 14-6. A kill from Tarvin made the score 23-11 and she would end the first set with another kill.
Catawba led most of the way in set two, using a 7-2 run to go up 19-14. Queens battled back and erased a 21-16 deficit to tie the set at 23-all. Two Catawba errors led to the final two points of the set.
The Royals started quick in set three and led early at 11-4 after a kill from Sydney Kunz. Catawba closed to 19-15 on an ace from Benton, but Queens ran off six of the final seven points and ended the match on a kill from Logan Witt.
Catawba will next host Wingate on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm.
