Season High Hitting Percentage Not Enough for Volleyball
SALISBURY, N.C. - - Catawba Lady Indians Volleyball dropped a five set decision match to Newberry College Saturday evening in Goodman Gymnasium. Despite Catawba hitting a season high .214 percentage, they fell to the Wolves 23-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-19, 11-15. The loss causes Catawba to fall to 3-11 overall and 1-9 in the South Atlantic Conference. Newberry improves to 8-8 and 4-6 in the conference.
A Newberry attack error broke an 11 all tie in the fourth set to give Catawba the lead. A service ace for Allison Benton and a kill by Macy Eidenberger gave Catawba two more points. Allie Grubb, Micah Ensor, Alexa Marcy, Kimberly Hurtado and Rachel Stanford all contributed kills to finish out the set forcing the fifth set. The fourth set was the second time in the match Catawba had a .350 hitting percentage with the first in the second set when they hit for .351.
The Lady Indians jumped out to an early lead and was looking to keep the lead until four straight errors gave Newberry the lead at the switch in the fifth set. Catawba pressured the Wolves and despite six score ties, it was not enough to give the lead back to Catawba.
Catawba will travel to Anderson for a SAC match up on Saturday, October 14 at 2 pm.
