Barts Sets School Record With 68 in Final Round of Rendleman Inv.
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba sophomore Kaley Barts shot a school-record 68 in the final round of the Patsy Rendleman Invitational Women’s Golf Tournament on Tuesday to finish fifth at the event. Catawba hosted the two-day tournament at the 5,983-yard, par-72 Country Club of Salisbury.
Lenoir-Rhyne won the tournament, playing a pair of players in the top five. The Bears posted a 590 score, 11 shots clear of second place Limestone. Catawba had a score of 631.
Medalist honors went to Megan Sabol, of North Georgia, who matched Barts’ tournament low with a 68 on Tuesday. She finished on a 139 total. She was three shots ahead of Lenoir-Rhyne’s Abbey Hartsell. Those two were joined on the all-tournament team by Barts, Candler Kimsey, of Young Harris, and Chelsea Mansel, of Lenoir-Rhyne.
Barts followed an opening 77 with her record round that saw her birdie the final four holes to finish at four-under-par. She bettered the previous low round of 69 which was accomplished by Paige Haverty at the Rendleman in 2004 and by Madison Kennedy at the Timberline Golf Club in 2014.
Catawba plays next Monday and Tuesday at the Lee Ann Noble Memorial at the Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega, Ga.
