In a Close Game Catawba falls to Lenoir-Rhyne
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College hosted Lenoir- Rhyne in a closely matched conference night game at Frock Soccer Complex. LR took home the win with a score of 4-3. The Bears improve to 6-2-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the SAC, while Catawba Indians fall to 1-8-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the SAC.
Lenoir-Rhyne opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when Ignacio de Goya shot for the 1-0 goal. Immediately following in the 34th minute Goya received a pass from Victor Cascon to shoot for goal number two. Goya also finished up the first half with Lenoir-Rhyne’s third goal in the 42nd minute.
Catawba College starting off the second half with a goal was Philipp Hollenhorst off a penalty kick. Jack Ragen received the ball off a corner kick from Sam Henneberg and headed the ball for Catawba’s second goal. Hollenhorst tied the game by receiving a pass from Henneberg for Catawba’s third in goal.
Victor Cascon for Lenoir-Rhyne received a pass from Kevin Nadeau in the 87th minute to clinch the win for Lenoir-Rhyne.
Lenoir-Rhyne held the edge 15-11 in shots against Catawba. With Evan Jeckells and Joe Gonzalez as keeper for Catawba they both had a pair of saves each. Zach King keeper for Lenoir-Rhyne had four saves.
Catawba will travel to Anderson for a Conference match on Saturday at 5 pm.
