Volleyball falls at Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, TN -- Carson-Newman's Kendra Rickertson posted 17 kills and 17 digs to lead the Lady Eagles to a win over visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Holt Fieldhouse. Carson-Newman won in four games by the scores of 27-30, 30-26, 30-26 and 30-25 and improved to 19-10 overall and 7-2 in the SAC. Catawba falls to 4-10 and 2-7. Catawba came out on fire in game one as it built a 15-4 lead early on. The Lady Eagles made things interesting late as they scored six straight points to pull within 29-27. But they could get no closer as Catawba won the first game 30-27. The second game was close throughout before the Lady Eagles pulled away for a 30-26 win. Game three ended with the same score, 30-26, as the Indians scored five straight points late but could not overcome the Lady Eagle lead. Game four saw Carson-Newman build a 21-9 lead and withstood a furious Catawba comeback to win game four 30-25 and the match 3-1. Rachel LaRoche (Wilmington, DE) and Megan Bowman (Hagerstown, MD) led the Lady Indians with 11 kills. Bowman added 15 digs for the Tribe.
