Women's Soccer Edged by Anderson
ANDERSON, S.C. -- Host Anderson scored a pair of first-half goals and held off Catawba to post a 2-1 win in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action on Saturday night at Trojan Stadium. The Trojans improve to 4-7-1 overall and 3-4 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 6-6 and 3-3.
Lexxi Longmire put Anderson on top in the fourth minute as she grabbed a loose ball and shot it home from 20 yards out. Longmire assisted on the second goal as she sent a long pass to Anna Kwiatkowski, who made it 2-0 in the 25th minute.
Catawba put the pressure on in the second half, out-shooting Anderson 15-2 in the final 45 minutes. Jenny Lux cut the margin in half just before the hour, but the Lady Indians couldn’t pull even. Logan Sandate hit the cross bar in the 72nd minute as did Gudny Jonsdottir in the 81st minute. Catawba’s final shot in the last minute was saved.
Abby Helm made six of her nine saves in the final half for Anderson. Shelby Thompson had four saves for the Lady Indians. Catawba held a 25-11 edge in shots for the match.
Catawba travels to Wingate on Wednesday. The match kicks off at 5 p.m.
