Swimming Notches Five Wins in Meet With UNCW


SALISBURY, N.C. -- Visiting UNC Wilmington topped Catawba in men’s and women’s swimming action on Friday afternoon at Johnson Pool. The Seahawk women recorded a 172-81 victory , while the men claimed a win 164-91.

The Catawba men swam to three individual wins during the meet. Aly Helal took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:44.03, winning by a full second. Joao Barreto won a close race in the 50 free as he touched at 21.89 to win by a tenth of second. Federico Borrego Higareda was able to cruise to a victory in the 200 breast as his time of 2:09.57 was 10 seconds faster than teammate Lukas Helbing.

Borrego was edged by just under two tenths of a second in the 100 IM (53.61), while Barreto went second in the 100 fly (52.44). Lucas Rhodes posted a second in the 500 free (5:04.07).

For the women, Claire Featherstone took a win in the 100 back, posting a time of 1:01.11 to win by a second. Kristina Rogge claimed victory in the 100 breast by a little over a second. Rogge would place second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:33.09 and Lea Hartwig was second in the 500 free (5:31.34).

Natalie Standard took second in the 100 fly with a time of 1:02.72. Taylor Fair claimed second in the 100 IM with her time of 1:03.94. 
Catawba swims at Wingate on Saturday at 2 p.m.
