Women's Soccer Falls in Final Minute to Tusculum
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Tusculum battled host Catawba into overtime and scored the winning goal inside the final minute of the match for a 2-1 win in a South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer match on Saturday night at Frock Soccer Complex. The Pioneers improve to 10-4 overall and 7-2 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 6-8 and 3-5.
The match would start with a scoreless first half. In the 69th minute Catawba started the scoring with a shot from Becky Frost that was saved by Tusculum, but Erin Feldman shot home the rebound just inside the post.
Sonja Ballmert for Tusculum would pass in the 78th minute to Payton Dehart for a header on a free kick to tie the game.
With seconds to spare in the second overtime Ballmert sent a pass into the box where Jordan Newby settled and scored the winning goal with 52 seconds to play.
The Lady Indians out shot Tusculum 19-15 for the match with Tusculum keeper Danielle Breen stopping six shots. Shelby Thompson came up with seven saves for Catawba.
Catawba will host Lenoir-Rhyne on Tuesday at 7 pm for a conference match to close out its home slate.
