Barreto and Featherstone Swim to Wins vs. Wingate
WINGATE, N.C. -- Wingate swam to victory over Catawba in both men’s and women’s swimming action on Saturday afternoon at the Wingate Natatorium. Wingate took the men’s meet 177-65 with the Bulldog women claiming a 187-56 win.
Catawba picked up a win from the women in the opening event as Claire Featherstone touched first in the 100 back. She posted a time of 1:00.71. The Lady Indians got second-place swims from Natalie Standard in the 50 free (25.97), Taylor Fair in the 200 back (2:10.70), Lea Hartwig in the 500 free (5:26.98) and Kristina Rogge in the 200 breast (2:32.80).
Joao Barreto earned a win for the men in the 100 fly, posting a time of 52.07. He was also a member of the winning 200 free relay team. Barreto, Federico Borrego Higareda, Gatlin Saylors and Ali Helal touched in a time of 1:26.59 to claim the win. Helal had a second in the 50 free (21.90).
Catawba’s men will return to the pool on Friday as they travel to Gardner-Webb for a 5 pm meet.
