Volleyball falls in three at Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, TN Carson-Newman defeated visiting Catawba 3-0 in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Holt Field House. The Lady Eagles improve to 13-8 overall and 4-1 in the SAC with the 30-26, 30-28, 30-19 win. Catawba falls to 9-7 and 3-3. The first game was close between the two teams until Carson-Newman pulled away from a 21-21 tie to take a 26-21 lead. C-N went on to a 30-26 victory. Catawba jumped out to a 7-1 start in game two but the Lady Eagles came back to seize the lead at 14-13. The Lady Eagles would build a 26-21 lead but the Indians cut into the lead before falling, 30-28. C-N jumped out to an early lead in game three and lever looked back as they went on to a 30-19 win. Jennifer Holmes (Franklin, TN) led C-N with 14 kills. Jenna Rust (Lindale, TX) had 22 digs to lead the Lady Eagles and added 11 kills and Melissa Miller (Springfield, OH) had 11 kills. Kari Gibson (Celina, OH) had 40 assists for C-N. Catawba, who falls to 9-7, 3-3 in the SAC, was led in kills by Summer Zuck (Kingston, TN) who had 19. Hope Miller (Newton, NC) paced the Indians with 17 digs and Erin Naumann (Cave Creek, AZ) added 16 digs. Sophomore setter Nicole Scheidt (China Grove, NC) had 35 assists for Catawba. #####
