Men's Soccer Back in Win Column After Knocking Off USCA
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba claimed a 1-0 win over visiting USC Aiken in men’s soccer action on Senior Night on Wednesday night at the Frock Soccer Complex. The victory snapped a seven-match winless stretch for the Catawba Indians, improving them to 2-10-2. The Pacers fall to 4-9-2.
The teams played an even first half with no goals being scored. Catawba would get the lead just past the hour in the 63rd minute. Keenan Tuck played a wide ball up the right side to Tom Singhgolden, who dribbled to the side of the box and sent a crossing shot that was saved by Dylan Brooks-Sharp, but it fell to Finely Carroll. Carroll tapped home the rebound for his second goal of the season.
Evan Jeckells made that score hold up, picking up three of his six saves after Catawba took the lead. Two of those saves came six seconds apart after stopping Driss Baraket then the rebound attempt by Roberto Biendicho.
USC Aiken held a 15-9 edge in shots, including a 9-4 margin the second half. Catawba had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Catawba winds up its season on Saturday as the Indians travel to Lincoln Memorial for a 3:30 pm kickoff.
