KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Bailey Howell scored with less than a minute to play in the first overtime period to lift Catawba to a 1-0 victory over Lincoln Memorial in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action on Saturday night at the Sansom Sports Complex. The Catawba Indians improve to 7-9 overall and 4-6 in the SAC, while the Lady Railsplitters fall to 7-10 and 2-8.

Catawba had peppered LMU with 28 previous shots, a dozen on goal, before Howell finally got one over the line. Howell settled a pass from Erin Feldman and put a shot off the crossbar that fell into the net in the 100th minute.

The Lady Indians would out-shoot Lincoln Memorial 29-9 in the match and had an edge in shots on target, 13-5. Catawba also held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks. Leanna Hendrix recorded 10 saves for LMU. Shelby Thompson stopped five shots in posting the shutout for Catawba.

Catawba travels to Wingate on Tuesday at 5 pm for the opening round of the SAC Tournament. Catawba finished as the seventh seed and would have dropped to #8 with a loss to LMU. Wingate earned the tiebreaker over Queens for the #2 seed.
