Men's Soccer Closes Season With Loss to Lincoln Memorial
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Catawba ended its men’s soccer season with a 4-1 loss to Lincoln Memorial in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday night at the Sansom Sports Complex. The Railsplitters improve to 9-3-3 overall and 4-3-3 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians finish at 2-11-2 and 1-7-2.
Victor Peres scored three-second half goals as Lincoln Memorial rallied from a 1-0 deficit at the half. Peres equalized just before the hour, scoring from in front of the goal off a pass from Danilo da Silva. Peres put the Railsplitters on top 10 minutes later off a cross from Felipe Machado in the 68th minute.
Catawba had scored first as Omer Green drove into the box, got past a defender, and scored to the left side. LMU controlled the second half, out-shooting the Indians 16-4 and 22-8 for the match. Evan Jeckells racked up eight saves for Catawba.
Da Silva added a goal of his own with 15 minutes remaining off a cross from Miguel Reis. Peres notched his hat trick with six minutes left off another cross from da Silva. LMU goalie Caleb Cothrin had two saves.
