Swimming Stands Third After Day One at Emory Invite
ATLANTA, Ga. – Catawba’s men and women sit in third after day one of the Emory Invitational being held over the weekend at the Woodruff Center Pool. The Catawba men picked up 148 points and are behind Emory (317) and Wingate (299). The women earned 158 points and are also behind Emory (366) and Wingate (298). Lenoir-Rhyne is fourth in both, while Georgia Southern has a women’s team at the event and is in fifth.
Federico Borrego Higareda led the way on Friday for Catawba. He was third in the men’s 200 IM (1:55.50) and fourth in the 100 breast (58.12). He also helped the 200 free relay (1:27.68) and the 400 medley relay (3:30.27) teams to fourth-place finishes.
Michael King picked up a fifth-place finish in the 200 fly (1:57.25) and Gatlin Saylors went seventh in the 200 back (1:59.05). In the other two events, Lucas Rhodes posted an 11th in the 500 free (4:53.53) and Joao Barreto was 16th in the 100 free (49.27). Barreto and Saylors were member of both relays, while Arnold Blohme swam a leg in the 200 free and Rhodes a leg in the 400 medley.
Taylor Fair took a couple of seventh-place finishes for the women. The first in the 200 IM (2:13.41) and later in the 200 back (2:11.71). Kristina Rogge matched Fair’s best team finish with a seventh in the 100 breast (1:09.23).
The women’s 200 free relay team of Featherstone, Emily Najar Hartwig and Rogge posted a time of 1:43.95 and touched sixth. Featherstone, Rogge, Jess Daniel and Natalie Standard teamed on the 400 medley relay (4:12.99) and placed seventh.
The teams will be back in action for the final day of the Invite on Saturday.
