Burman's goal sends Women's Soccer past Wingate 1-0SALISBURY, NC – Catawba College picked up its fourth straight shutout victory, 1-0 over the visiting Wingate Bulldogs in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action on Saturday night at Frock Field. With the win, the Lady Indians improved to 3-1 in the SAC and 10-1 overall, while the Bulldogs remain winless in the conference at 0-3, 8-3 overall. Solid play from both teams led to a scoreless first half with Catawba out shooting Wingate 6-1. Both teams had quality chances throughout the night. In the 63rd minute, Catawba’s Lindsey Albers (Portland, OR) fired a shot that hit the left post and Wingate would eventually clear to avoid further trouble. Wingate’s Heather Schlick (Prior Lake, MN) fired a point blank shot during a Wingate run in the 67th minute, but keeper Cathrine Balentine (Charlotte, NC) was there to pick up one of four saves on the night. After 79 minutes of scoreless soccer, McKenzie Burman (Rolesville, NC) took a pass from Stephanie Morey (Ephrata, PA) and fired it past Bulldog keeper Alissa DiDonato (Lawrenceville, GA) to give the Lady Indians their only goal of the night. DiDonato picked up four saves in the loss for the Bulldogs.
