Football Stays Sixth in Regional Rankings
The Catawba Football Team enters the final week of the season with a chance to qualify for the NCAA II Playoffs on the line. The Catawba Indians sit sixth in this week’s regional poll with seven teams getting spots in the postseason. Those teams will be selected by a committee on Sunday and announced at 5 pm during the online NCAA Selection Show at ncaa.com.
The game will pit Catawba against its long-time rival Lenoir-Rhyne. The teams are meeting for the 97th in a series Catawba leads 48-44-4. The Indians won last season 16-14 on Brennan Lambert’s last-minute field goal. Fans are encouraged to wear blue to support the Indians in a “Blue Out” game. In addition, the game is being played on Veterans Day and all current or former members of the military will be admitted free with an I.D.
The weekend also marks Hall of Fame Weekend at Catawba. Five new members will join the Catawba Sports Hall of Fame. Mike Delabar, who played soccer and lacrosse, Danyel Locklear Jolicoeur, a former women’s basketball player, Bill Griffin, a standout in football and track, Luke Samples, who played football, and former softball and field hockey player, Adrian Whitley Gantt, will join the Hall in festivities on Friday night.
