Rogers Collects Double-Double in Exhibition Loss to UNCW
WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Host UNC Wilmington rallied in the third quarter to post a 74-59 win over Catawba in women’s basketball action on Friday afternoon at Trask Coliseum. The Seahawks improve to 3-2, while the game served as an exhibition game for the Catawba Indians.
UNC Wilmington scored the first six points and never trailed in the opening quarter, settling for a 19-14 lead after the 10-minute period. Terri Rogers scored the first eight points of the second quarter as the Lady Indians took the lead. Her layup at the 7:49 mark gave Catawba a 20-19 edge and the Lady Indians would lead 32-30 at the break.
A three-pointer by Serena Brown with 6:52 to go in the third quarter gave Catawba its biggest lead at 39-34. UNCW went up 42-41, but Brown answered with another three for a 44-42 Lady Indian advantage. That would be Catawba’s last points of the period and the Seahawks went on a 9-0 spurt for a 51-44 lead. Leading by six, UNC Wilmington used an 11-2 midway through the fourth quarter to pull away.
Rogers, who missed last year's game with UNCW, produced a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Brown also reached double figures with 12 points, canning a trio of three-pointers.
Catawba did out-rebound the Seahawks, 41-35, but shot just 30% and had 21 turnovers. UNCW canned 52% in the win and had 15 miscues. Lacey Suggs came off the bench to score 20 points for the Seahawks. Madison Raque added 17 points, while Jenny DeGraaf scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
