Men's Basketball Drops League Opener to #2 Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Queens, ranked #2 in NCAA II, opened South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball play with an 83-65 win over visiting Catawba on Wednesday night at the Levine Center. The Royals improve to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-3 and 0-1.
The Royals never trailed, but Catawba did stay close over the opening seven minutes, trailing just 11-9. Queens made a big push over the final eight minutes of the first half. A three-pointer by Darryl White increased the Queens lead to 26-17 and led to a 25-9 run to close the half for a 48-26 bulge.
The Indians got within 16 early in the second half before the Royals spurted out to 26-point lead with just under 10 minutes left. The lead grew to 28 with five minutes remaining before a late Catawba run pulled the Indians within 15.
Malik Constantine led the Indians with 21 points. Jerrin Morrison also scored in double figures with 12 points. Catawba was out-rebounded 41-26.
Queens put four players in double figures and connected on 13-of-28 three-pointers. Ike Agusi and Josh Van Weezep paced the Royals with a dozen points each. Mike Davis added 11 points and Jalin Alexander 10.
Next up for Catawba is a trip on Saturday to face #4 Lincoln Memorial at 4 pm.
