Women's Swimming Leads After Day One of Yellow Jacket Inv.
CHESTESRFIELD, Va. -- The Catawba women’s swim team leads the Yellow Jacket Invitational after day one on Friday. The women, who posted 393 points, lead Catholic by 11 points. The Catawba Indian men are third with 75 points, trailing Howard (430) and Washington College (393). There are 11 women’s teams and nine men’s teams in the meet.
For the women, Taylor Fair swam to a win in the 200 IM. She posted a time of 2:13.06. Jessica Daniel posted a time of 2:18.49 was placed eighth. Claire Featherstone grabbed a win in the 50 free by a tenth of second with a time of 24:48. It was the sixth fastest time in school history. Kristina Rogge was 12th in a time of 25:50.
Regan Nolan took third in the 500 free, swimming a time of 5:15.99. Lea Hartwig picked up a ninth-place finish at 5:21.45. The 400 medley relay team of Fair, Rogge, Oryan Malul and Featherstone finished second in a time of 4:02.19. Featherstone, Emily Najar, Natalie Standard and Malul placed fifth in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:40.70.
Catawba’s men won both relays on Friday. The team of Joao Barreto, Arnold Blohme, Federico Borrego Higareda and Gatlin Saylors posted a time of 1:24.56 in the 200 free relay to claim a win by a second and half over Howard. In the final event of the day, Lucas Rhodes joined Saylors, Higareda and Borreto to edge Howard in the 400 medley relay by just under a half second with a time of 3:26.96.
Individually, Higareda posted a win in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.28. Lukas Helbing was 11th in a time of 2:02.42. Borreto was edged by two-tenths of second in the 50 free, finishing second at 20:98. Saylors clocked in at 21:39 for a fifth-place finish.
In the other individual event, Michael King timed in at 4:44.65 in the 500 free and was third. Rhodes claimed ninth in a time of 4:55.32.
Action will conclude on Saturday with a morning and late afternoon session.
