Cross Country results from North Carolina Collegiate Championships

GREENVILLE, NC -- The Catawba College Cross Country teams ran at the North Carolina Collegiate Championships on Saturday morning. The evnet was held at Lake Kristi and was hosted by East Carolina University. Both Catawba teams placed fourth in the Division II field. Sophomore Jesse Howes (Huntington, MA) led the men with a fifth place finish. He covered the 8k course in a time of 27:26, which would have placed 32nd among all runner. Junior Justin Garzone (Hopateong, NJ) was 12th in a time of 28:19, while sophomore Josh Houghton (Salisbury, NC) finished 15th in a time of 29:09. Mount Olive's Josh Quinn claimed the individual title, helping the Trojans also win the team title. He ran a time of 26:39. Sophomore Rebecca DeFeo (Cape May Ct House, NJ) earned a top 10 finish for the women as she ran the 5k course in a time of 20:18 to place eighth. The time was just 16 seconds off the school record. Twanita Jones (Newport News, VA) was 13th with a time of 21:28, while Caitlin Koukal (Sanbornville, NH) ran a time of 22:01 to finish 17th place.
