Volleyball swept by Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian College extended its win streak to 12 with a 30-21, 30-25, 30-18 victory over the visiting Lady Indians of Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference women's volleyball action at the Ross E. Templeton Center on Friday night. The Blue Hose improve to 19-3 overall and 8-0 in the SAC while Catawba falls to 10-8 overall and 4-4 in the SAC. In the opening game, Presbyterian jumped out to a 9-4 lead fueled by a 5-0 run which was capped off by a kill from sophomore outside hitter Erin Friday (Summerville, S.C.). Catawba closed the gap to 12-11 on a solo block from junior middle hitter Elizabeth Hewitt (Hickory, N.C.) only to see the Blue Hose go on a 11-6 run to push the lead to 24-18 on a kill by senior middle hitter Lindsay Mitchell (Chapin, S.C.). PC would close out the game on a 6-3 run with sophomore middle hitter Jasmin Brown (Alpharetta, Ga.) tallying three kills down the stretch to give PC the 30-21 win. Catawba would open the second game on a 6-1 run capped off by a kill from junior middle hitter Crissi Harrison (Hickory, N.C.). The Lady Indians would hold their lead until PC's Brown tied the match at 13 on a kill in the middle. With the game tied at 14, PC went on a 12-4 run highlighted by three kills from Friday and three from Mitchell to open a 26-18 lead. A kill by Catawba's junior outside hitter Hope Miller (Newton, N.C.) would cut the lead to 28-23, but PC would finish off the Lady Indians with a pair of kills from junior outside hitter Donja Bobbitt (San Antonio, Tex.) to win 30-25. The final game started with PC taking commanding leads of 7-1 and 13-3 to open the game. A pair of kills from Catawba's junior outside hitter Heather Hawkins (Troutman, N.C.) would cut the lead to single figures at 19-10 before PC went on a 11-8 run highlighted by six kills from Friday to seal the victory at 30-18. PC's senior setter Kellie Haire (Clearwater, Fla.) led the way with a match-high 49 assists while adding nine digs. Friday led the offensive attack with 19 kills followed by Bobbitt's 13 kills, Mitchell's 12 kills, and Brown's 11 kills. Friday and freshman libero Erin Winchester (Pickens, S.C.) led the defense with 14 digs apiece. Catawba was led by Hawkins' team-high 10 kills while Miller added seven kills and 15 digs. Sophomore setter Nicole Scheidt (China Grove, N.C.) dished out 27 assists on the night while junior Katie Moore (Haymarket, Va.) would add 13 digs. #####
