Taylor Nets 26 For Men's Basketball in Loss to Anderson
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba couldn’t find its shooting mark in falling to visiting Anderson 76-67 in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. The Trojans up their mark to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 3-6 and 0-4.
Catawba hit on just 34% of its attempts and hit only 3-of-15 behind the arc. Anderson was slightly better at 38%, but drained 11 three-pointers and sank 23-of-29 at the line.
The game was tight in the opening half with the largest lead being six points, which came when Anderson grabbed a 31-25 edge in the final three minutes of the half. Catawba closed within 34-32, but Jeremy Bouton hit a three-pointer in the dying seconds to give the Trojans a 37-32 edge at the break.
Down nine early in the second half, Catawba would use an 8-0 surge to tie the game on a Jerrin Morrison free throw at the 12:26 mark. The Indians went on top 49-48 following a three-pointer by Malik Constantine with 11:31 left, but Gage Ellis answered that three and Anderson led the rest of the way.
The Trojans were back up by nine with just under six minutes to play and by a dozen after Josh Livingston’s three-pointer with 5:20 left. A three-pointer by TJ Jeffers and two free throws by Jameel Taylor after a steal got the Indians within 72-67 with 17 seconds to go, but the Trojans canned four free throws down the stretch to take the win.
Taylor led all scorers with 26 in a losing effort. He also posted six steals. Morrison chipped in with 10 points and Constantine pulled down eight rebounds.
Bouton had a double-double for Anderson with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Ellis also scored 19 points. Andrew Boynton tallied 11 points and Maurice Howard scored 10.
Catawba is back in action on Tuesday morning, hosting Wingate at 11 am for its annual Education Day game.
