Women's Swimming Takes Win Over Ashland
SALISBURY, N.C. -- The Catawba swim teams returned to action and split a dual meet with visiting Ashland on Friday night at Johnson Pool. The Catawba Indian women picked up a 102-95 victory, while the men fell 117-84.
Catawba’s women took wins in the six of the 11 events, opening with a victory in the 400 medley relay. The team of Claire Featherstone, Kristina Rogge, Jess Daniel and Natalie Standard posted a time of 4:14.13 for a nine-second win. Individually, Marcia-Mariel Erhart won the 1000 free (11:14.88), Taylor Fair the 200 IM (2:16.31), Daniel the 100 fly (1:01.71), Featherstone the 100 back (1:02.85) and Rogge the 100 breast (1:11.41).
Fair made it a one-two finish for the women in the 100 back, posting a second with a time of 1:04.78. She took third in the 100 breast (1:13.60). Regan Nolan (2:06.40) and Emily Najar (2:10.03) went two-three in the 200 free as did Lea Hartwig (57.69) and Standard (58.50) in the 100 and Erhart (5:29.32) and Nolan (5:34.23) in the 500 free.
The men were also victorious to open the meet in the 400 medley relay. Gatlin Saylors, Federico Borrego Higareda, Joao Barreto and Arnold Blohme clocked a time of 3:33.92 to win by a second and half. Barreto added individual wins in the 50 free (22.31) and the 100 fly (51.86). Other individual wins went to Matt Arnold in the 200 free (1:52.03) and Higareda in the 100 breast (1:00.09).
Higareda was second in the 200 IM (1:58.92) as was Michael King in both the 1000 free (10:16.74) and the 500 free (4:53.98). Saylors would grab a second in the 100 back (54.54).
Catawba swims at Limestone tomorrow at 1 pm before returning to Johnson Pool for its final home meet next Friday against Barton 4 pm.
