Rogers' 24 Points Not Enough for Women's Basketball Against #4 Carson-Newman
JEFFERSON CITY, T.N. - - Catawba Women’s Basketball fell to number four Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Holt Fieldhouse. The 88-60 defeat drops the Catawba Lady Indians to 7-7 on the season and 5-2 in the conference, while the Eagles improve to 15-0 and 7-0 in the SAC.
Catawba shot 42% from the field and 60% from the free throw line. Terri Rogers led the Lady Indians with 24 points. Serena Brown added 11 points for Catawba. Carson-Newman shot 47% and was led by Kayla Marosites.
The first 10-minute period remained a tight battle and ending in an 18-all tie. Carson-Newman went on an 11 point run during the second quarter and led by 13 with 2:53 remaining in the half. Catawba scored five points within the 2:53, but the Eagles took a 45-30 point edge into the break.
Rogers scored first in the second half, but the Lady Indians were unable to chip away at the Eagles lead. Carson-Newman increased their margin to 20 to end the third quarter. The Eagles maintained at least a 20 point edge in the last 10-minute period.
Catawba will return home to Goodman Gymnasium Wednesday, January 10, for a South Atlantic Conference game against Coker. Tip off will be at 6 pm.
