Swimming Splits Dual Meet With LR
HICKORY, N.C. -- Catawba split wins with Lenoir-Rhyne in swimming action on Saturday afternoon at the Shuford PE Center Pool. Catawba’s women prevailed 151-107, while the Bear men took a 173-86 win.
The Catawba won picked up 10 wins, nine individual plus the 200 medley relay. Lea Hartwig, Kristina Rogge, Jess Daniel and Taylor Fair picked up two wins for the ladies. Claire Featherstone also had a win. Joao Barreto swam to a pair of wins for the men. Arnold Blohme had the other individual victory for the men, who also won the 200 medley relay.
Hartwig swam to wins in the 200 free (2:04.34) and the 100 free (57.04). Rogge had victories in the 100 breast (1:10.90) and the 200 breast (2:24.41) in which she posted the fifth fastest time in school history.
Daniel claimed her wins in the 200 fly (2:20.70) and the 100 fly (1:01.46). Fair earned wins in the 200 back (2:12.58) and 200 IM (2:16.26). Featherstone topped the field in the 100 back (1:01.92).
For the men, Barreto had his wins in the 50 free (21:74) and the 100 fly (50.90). Blohme grabbed the top spot in the 100 back (55.58).
Top finishes in other events for the women came from Marcia-Mariel Erhart, who was second in the 1000 free (11:16.53) and the 500 free (5:35.37) and Natalie Standard, who was second in the 50 free (26.29). Men got second place finishes from Federico Borrego Higareda in the 100 breast (59.20) and 200 breast (2:11.36) Lucas Rhodes in the 200 free (1:48.59) and Michael King in the 1000 free (10:34.25).
Catawba next heads to the Bluegrass Mountain Championships which will be held February 14-17 at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center in Charlotte, N.C.
